Salsa Fargo, a valid BBA cure ?

Late 2019 thoughts...

2019 has been a quite fulfilled year, and i experienced many bikes and setups, maybe I found a cure to my BBA, bike buying addiction ... :) :) :)

I do believe that having different bikes is a nice way to renew interest when you swap, bikes and activities.

I mostly ride gravel, road and singles, for at least to thirds the Salsa Fargo fulfills the requisite.

Let's summarize how :

Single tracks, with 27.5+ wheels, check
Gravel, with 29" wheels, check
Mountain, with huge brackets (front 24x38 and rear 11x36) and great brakes, check

Bikepacking capabilities with fork and custom frame bag, check

Reliability, ATSM3-4 setup, check
Wheight capabilities, frame up to 165kg and wheels 150kg, check

Learned lessons

As to get maximum versatility and clearance, I choose to go for huge brackets and reasonable cost, here's the setup :

2x10 Shimano Hydro levers : GRX400
Nice and affordable, but tricky to purge !

Hydro brakes : Shimano MT500 with semi metal pads
The largest piston diameter GRX400 can play with

Discs : Magura storm 180 front and 160 rear
Simple and tough

Crankset : Shimano XT M8000 modified to 24x38 with 10s front derailleur
Boost spaced to get the most clearance

Crankset bearings : reinforced Shimano BB80

Rear derailleur : Shimano GRX 400, a very very nice piece of stuff !
No chain jump, perfectly acting with the MTB cassette

Cassette : Simple, reliable and affordable Shimano HG81 11x36 (about 32€)
Handlebar : Salsa Wood chipper (a logical choice for a Fargo)
Saddle : Brooks B17 imperial
Pedals : Simple and effective Shimano M530

Wheelsets :

27.5"+ : SunRinglé DUROC40, cheap effective and almost bombproof
29" : DT Swiss H1700 25mm wide, originally designed for e-MTB but well reinforced for heavy riders and bikepackers ! And almost at a reasonable price...
